2024 International Conference: Shakespeare in Transformation

In an era where the world is rapidly being transformed by post-pandemic dynamics and groundbreaking technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and platforms like ChatGPT, the ways in which we read, teach, study, and perform Shakespeare is constantly challenged and moved forward. The Taiwan Shakespeare Association invites papers from scholars, students, and theatre practitioners to reflect on the enduring legacy of Shakespeare in this context of unprecedented digital evolution. Our 2024 conference, “Shakespeare in Transformation,” aims to delve into how these technological advancements are reshaping the ways we interact with, interpret, and disseminate the works of Shakespeare.

“Shakespeare in Transformation” seeks to explore the myriad ways in which William Shakespeare’s works continue to resonate, adapt, and transform in the face of changing cultural, technological, and social landscapes. We encourage submissions that examine the transitions of Shakespeare’s works across time, cultures, media, and academic disciplines.

 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Cross-Cultural Adaptations of Shakespeare
• Digital Innovations in Shakespeare Studies and Performance
• Shakespeare and EMI; Shakespeare and TESOL; Shakespeare in Contemporary Education: Challenges and Opportunities
• Translating Shakespeare for the Modern Audience
• Shakespeare and Social Media: New Platforms for Engagement
• Transdisciplinary Approaches to Shakespeare
• Shakespeare’s Works in Film and Other Visual Media
• Reimagining Shakespearean Theater for the 21st Century
• post-Covid Shakespeare
• The Future of Shakespeare Scholarship in a Digital Age

 

Submission Guidelines:

We welcome abstracts for 15-minute presentations, panel proposals, workshops, and interactive sessions. Please submit abstracts of no more than 300 words. Please also include the presenter’s name, affiliation, and contact information.

Please submit your abstracts via email to taiwanshakespeareassociation@gmail.com with the subject line “Shakespeare in Transformation Submission.”

• Notification of Acceptance: before March 31st.
• Conference Dates: April 21st.

在後疫情的時代變革和創新科技（如人工智慧和ChatGPT等平台）迅速轉變世界的時代，我們閱讀、教授、研究和演繹莎士比亞的方式不斷受到挑戰和推進。臺灣莎士比亞學會誠摯邀請學者、學生和劇場從業者投稿，反思莎士比亞在這個前所未有的數位進化背景下的恆久傳承。我們的2024年國際研討會「變動中的莎士比亞」旨在深入探討科技進步如何重新塑造我們與莎士比亞作品互動、解讀和傳播的方式。
「變動中的莎士比亞」期許探索莎士比亞的作品在不斷變化的文化、技術和社會景觀中持續共鳴、適應和轉化的多種方式。我們鼓勵投稿探討莎士比亞作品在時間、文化、媒體和學術學科之間的轉變。
